CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Chimchar climbs nimbly to the steep terrain where it lives. Its energy and good cheer accompany a silhouette whose flame is immediately visible. But rest requires another gesture: before sleeping, it puts the flame out to prevent a fire. Its life is not only about producing fire; it also includes knowing when to control it.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Chimchar's fire is fueled by gas produced in its belly, according to Pokémon Pearl. The same entry notes that even rain cannot extinguish it. This internal origin explains a feature of its functioning described in the Pokédex.
