CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Turtwig has a very direct relationship with earth, water and sun. Its shell is made of hardened soil, while its body photosynthesizes in the light. Near the lakes where it lives, drinking also contributes to its protection's strength. This small silhouette thus brings together several parts of the landscape, as though its own body preserved a living portion of it.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

This Turtwig printing links its soil-made shell to a specific environment: its description places it near lakes and explains that the shell hardens when it drinks. On the same card, Tackle deals 10 damage and Razor Leaf 20. Ken Sugimori is the illustrator.
