CARDEX BACKGROUND
Houndoom's howl has long frightened humans, who have mistaken it for the call of the grim reaper. Yet it also lives in an organised pack: its members choose their leader through battle, and the leader's swept-back horns set it apart. Its unsettling image from afar therefore conceals very real relationships among its kind. The voice that seems to announce a bad omen belongs to a Pokémon attentive to each member's place.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.Houndoom can breathe poison-laced flames to finish off its prey, then share it with the other members of its pack. Ultra Sun thus shows a hunter whose fire also helps feed the group. This social dimension can easily be overlooked behind its sinister reputation and impressive attacks.
Quoted source text is retained in the card’s printed language so this exact printing can be identified. The CarDex background above is translated into English.
