CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Cryogonal is said to have been born from a snow cloud. It catches prey with chains made of frost crystals, then encloses them in intense cold. Its own form depends on temperature: when too warm, it dissipates into vapor and becomes hard to observe; cooling restores its icy body. The Pokédex thus describes a hunter whose weapon and existence depend on the same heat-sensitive material.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Black explains that Cryogonal turns to vapor as its temperature rises and regains its shape in the cold. Pokémon Shield connects this with its apparent rarity in summer. A seasonal absence can therefore hide a change of state rather than a departure.
