CARDEX BACKGROUND
Heatran inhabits volcanic caves and craters. Its blood is said to boil like magma, and the heat of its own body has melted some parts of its rugged steel armour. Yet it does not remain motionless at the bottom of a volcano: its cross-shaped feet let it climb walls and even ceilings. The Pokédex thus connects its heat resistance with a very particular way of moving across the rock around it.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.Pokémon X attributes Heatran’s ability to crawl along the walls and ceilings of volcanic caves to its cross-shaped feet. This movement is surprising for such a massive steel body. The entry describes an adaptation to cave terrain, without crediting it with flight.
