The Pokémon’s story

Gastly does not fit the reassuring outlines of a solid body. Made of gas and almost invisible, it can envelop a target without being noticed. The abandoned buildings where it is said to appear become places in which the air itself seems suspect. Its unsettling presence comes from this impossibility of grasping it: danger takes the form of something that seems barely there.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon distinguishes a figure from a rumour: 95% of Gastly’s body is said to be toxic gas, while the rest is said to consist of souls. The origin of those last 5% is presented as a belief, rather than a certainty.
