CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Honedge takes the appearance of an old sword, but its blue eye on the guard is said to be its true body. The Pokédex relates that an ancient human soul inhabits the blade. Anyone grasping it as a weapon risks having the blue cloth wrap around their arm and drain their life energy. This trap reverses the expected action: the person believes they are wielding a sword, while the Pokémon has already taken hold of them.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword goes further than other entries: Honedge’s soul is said to be that of a human killed by the blade now forming its body. Pokémon Shield locates its true body in the eye on the guard, rather than in the entire metal part.
