CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Smoliv turns the nutrients it absorbs into oil and stores them in the fruit above its head. This reserve allows it to go nearly a week without eating or drinking. If an enemy approaches, it releases oil so bitter and astringent that the other creature may recoil in surprise. The same fruit therefore stores energy and provides protection. Despite its small size, Smoliv has an effective chemical response to danger.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Violet locates Smoliv's oil reserve in the fruit on its head and mentions the possibility of a week without water or food. Pokémon Scarlet describes the oil's bitter taste as strong enough to make an opponent hesitate.
