CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Archen is an ancient bird brought back from a fossil. It has wings but cannot yet fly: it moves through trees by hopping and can glide toward prey from a high branch. It eats Berries and Bug-type Pokémon. Long presented as the ancestor of all bird Pokémon, it is now the subject of more cautious research; a recent entry indicates that this ancestry may be false. Its place in the history of species therefore remains open.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sun presents Archen as an ancestor of birds, but Pokémon Ultra Sun specifies that recent research disputes this idea. Pokémon Ultra Moon recalls another detail: despite its wings, the restored fossil cannot fly.
