CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Sandaconda coils its body in a particular way before expelling the sand it holds. This posture optimizes the spray through its nostrils. By compressing its whole body, it can eject up to a hundred kilograms of sand. But this defense depends on its supply: when it runs out, the Pokédex says it tends to retreat. Its behavior therefore changes with what it carries, and its spiral shape directly contributes to the force of its spray.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword puts the amount of sand Sandaconda can expel by compressing its body at 100 kg. Pokémon Shield explains why it coils up: this position optimizes the flow of sand through its nostrils. Without a supply, the same Sword entry describes it as inclined to flee.
