CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

When the sea warms, Phione inflates the flotation sac on its head. Groups then drift offshore, carried by warm waters. Even when taken far from its starting point, this Pokémon always returns to the place where it was born. Off Hisui's coast, its blue body blends with the ocean. One entry proposes that this color protects it from predators, but presents that role as a deduction rather than an observed fact.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Y states that Phione finds its birthplace despite drifting a long distance. Pokémon X describes groups floating thanks to their head sacs. Pokémon Legends: Arceus cautiously suggests that their blue color provides camouflage in the water.
