CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Crawdaunt defends its pond with a quarrelsome temper and waves its enormous claws when an intruder approaches. Yet it loses them fairly easily and waits for them to regrow before recovering its confidence. During a molt, its new shell remains soft, so it buries itself underwater to avoid attack. The Pokédex shows a fighter difficult to train but forced to hide while its armor and weapons reform.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Alpha Sapphire describes Crawdaunt buried at the bottom of a waterway after molting until its shell hardens. Pokémon Ultra Sun notes its loss of courage when a claw falls off. Its vulnerable moments therefore involve two protections it must wait to regain.
