CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Flaaffy stores electricity in its soft fleece. As its charge grows, its tail lights up and strands of wool may become electrified. Its wool has adapted to produce plenty of static electricity even when it is less abundant. The exposed parts of its skin resist current, protecting it from its own energy. The Pokédex thus describes a kind of balance between conductive fleece and insulating skin, visible even in the areas where its wool has disappeared.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Flaaffy’s smooth skin is insulating: Pokémon Ultra Sun states that it can be stroked without giving an electric shock. The contrast with its charged wool explains the appearance of its bare areas. This protection does not, however, make every strand of wool harmless.
