CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Chatot skillfully imitates sounds with a tongue resembling a human's. It can learn and repeat a few words. Several individuals living together even end up memorizing the same phrases. In the wild, this imitation also lets it reproduce an enemy's cry to pass as one of its kind and avoid attack. The Pokédex thus connects an ability that amuses humans with a genuine survival strategy.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon X explains that Chatot copies an opponent's cry to escape an attack. Pokémon Y notes that members of the same group learn the same human phrases. Its imitations can thus respond to collective life or danger.
