CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Caterpie grows quickly by devouring leaves, sometimes nearly a hundred in a day. Its small suction-cup feet let it climb walls and slopes despite its fragile body. When a bird approaches, it releases an unpleasant smell through its antennae to repel it, without always managing to escape danger. This vulnerability and its rapid growth explain its frequent place among the first Pokémon encountered by young Trainers.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun credits Caterpie with eating up to a hundred leaves a day. Pokémon Shield emphasises that its suction cups let it climb without tiring. Its caterpillar life thus combines an intense appetite with movements its soft appearance does not suggest.
