CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Poochyena locates prey by smell and follows it for a long time, sometimes until exhaustion. It readily bites anything moving and bristles the fur on its tail to appear more intimidating. Yet this tenacity has a limit: an unexpected counterattack may make it retreat. It also eats a wide variety of foods. The Pokédex thus sketches a persistent young hunter that still hesitates when a pursuit turns against it.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Omega Ruby states that Poochyena may flee if its prey fights back, despite a long chase. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire describes its bristling tail as a means of intimidation. Its threatening appearance and persistence therefore do not guarantee courage at the final moment.
