CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Whismur's usual voice is barely audible. But a threat is enough to trigger a much stronger cry, whose noise frightens Whismur itself. The more it hears itself, the louder it cries, until exhaustion and sleep follow. Its timidity thus creates a sound loop: the Pokémon cannot always control the scale of the signal expressing its fear.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword gives this contrast a measurement: Whismur's cry exceeds 100 decibels there. The entry associates proximity to the cry with a prolonged headache, making its gentle-sounding name particularly misleading.
