CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Slowbro came into being when a Shellder attached itself to a Slowpoke’s tail. The bite altered its posture and slowed its metabolism even further. With its tail no longer free for fishing, it must swim to find food. The Pokédex also relates that it can become a Slowpoke again if the Shellder leaves. This evolution therefore seems less final than a simple bodily transformation: it depends on the continued presence of its attached companion.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

When Shellder bites harder, Slowbro is said sometimes to have a brilliant idea, immediately forgotten according to Pokémon Moon. Pokémon Ultra Sun describes another unexpected consequence: if its tail detaches and it loses Shellder, it can become a Slowpoke again.
