The Pokémon’s story

Makuhita devotes its days to training, interrupted only by large meals and naps. This routine lets it gather the energy needed for its palm strikes. It hits trees to grow stronger, but sometimes chooses an Exeggutor that will not tolerate it. Its morale remains strong despite setbacks. The Pokédex thus presents a young wrestler that builds strength through simple habits repeated with great tenacity.

Pokémon Ultra Sun says a Makuhita training against an Exeggutor risks being sent flying. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire nevertheless emphasizes its perseverance. This choice of the wrong target neatly captures an apprenticeship based on practice and the ability to start again.
