CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Yamask wanders among ruins carrying a mask said to represent the face it had as a human. Pokédex accounts say it was born from the soul of someone from an ancient people and retains memories of a past life. It sometimes looks sadly at this mask and is said to seek someone who can recognize it. Its journey through the remains is therefore more than wandering: it seems connected to an identity it wants to recover.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Black describes Yamask crying before its mask; Pokémon Shield shows it searching for someone who might recognize its face. Both entries give this object a personal meaning beyond its role in the Pokémon's silhouette.
