CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Gligar clings to cliffs before letting the air carry it silently. As soon as it spots prey, it swoops down and uses its taloned feet and pincers to grip the victim's face. Its poisonous stinger completes the assault. This attack seems to come from nowhere because it glides silently rather than flapping wings like a bird. The Pokédex presents a hunter that turns the terrain into a launching point for an aerial ambush.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Omega Ruby distinguishes Gligar's hind-leg talons from its front-leg pincers: both immobilize a target before the sting. Pokémon X often places it on a cliff. Its attack depends as much on its grip as on its poison.
