CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Excadrill pierces the earth with its steel drills. It creates very deep tunnel networks, sometimes close enough to human infrastructure to reach a subway tunnel. Humans also use its abilities to dig passages. Some caverns it leaves behind resemble natural formations so closely that they can be mistaken for them. The Pokédex describes a burrower capable of moving very quickly underground: its passage transforms the subsurface before the Pokémon is even seen.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield gives Excadrill a digging speed of up to 150 km/h. Pokémon Sword explains that its caverns are sometimes mistaken for natural caves. Its underground work can therefore remain visible long after its maker has disappeared.
