Stachel-Energie

CARDEX BACKGROUND

The role of this Energy

Spiky Energy provides one Colorless Energy to its holder. If that Pokémon occupies the Active Spot and takes damage from an opposing attack, two damage counters are placed on the attacker. Its text specifies that this retaliation occurs even when the defender is Knocked Out. The effect does not come from a player-selected attack: it responds to a hit received in a particular position. On the Bench, the Active Spot condition is not met.

A detail worth noticing

The wording 'even if this Pokémon is Knocked Out' makes Spiky Energy distinctive: retaliation can still place two counters on the attacker at the moment of defeat. However, the text requires damage from an opposing Pokémon's attack against the Active Pokémon.
