CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Xatu remains motionless for long hours, its eyes turned toward the horizon and the sun's course. Traditions credit it with the power to see the past and future, which has led some people to worship it. Other accounts say it cannot alter what it sees and use this to explain its silence. The Pokédex reports these beliefs without offering proof of its visions. What an observer can be certain of is its persistent posture facing the sky.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun says Xatu supposedly sees the future without being able to change it. Ultra Moon offers a different nuance: it has no intention of changing it. The two entries therefore do not give the same reason for its attitude toward future events.
