CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Tirtouga swam in ancient seas about a hundred million years ago. Restored from a fossil, it remains highly capable underwater and can dive very deep. Yet its hunting grounds did not end at the shoreline: despite walking slowly, it went onto dry land to pursue prey. Its bone structure also supports the idea that it was an ancestor of many turtle Pokémon. The Pokédex presents this relationship as a reputation, not a demonstrated lineage.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sun infers from Tirtouga's skeleton a diving capacity exceeding half a mile, about 800 meters. Pokémon Ultra Moon describes hunting territory extending from land to these depths. Pokémon Shield recalls that it is considered the ancestor of several turtle Pokémon.
