CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Maractus lives in dry regions where its seeds are a valuable resource. It shakes its body rhythmically and produces a maraca-like sound. This dance is more than a performance: it startles bird Pokémon seeking to devour the seeds in its flowers and drives them away. Once a year, it scatters its new crop. The Pokédex thus links music, defense and plant cycles in the life of this desert Pokémon.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield notes that Maractus's seeds are rich in nutrients and sought after in the desert. Pokémon Sword shows its dance driving away birds that want to eat them. The maraca sound therefore protects a resource useful to other inhabitants of the environment.
