CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Cottonee protects itself by scattering a cloud of cotton: an opponent may mistake it for the Pokémon while it escapes. Its fibres regrow quickly, and several individuals together form a mass resembling a cloud. Wind can carry it far away, but rain weighs down its cotton and sometimes prevents it moving. Humans also collect this material to make fabric and bedding. Its lightness is therefore a defence, a means of travel and a sought-after resource.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun notes that rain can immobilise Cottonee by soaking its cotton with water. Pokémon Shield describes luxury fabrics blending its cotton with Eldegoss’s. The same fibre that protects it is thus valued by humans, but becomes a handicap in a downpour.
