CARDEX BACKGROUND
The story behind this Trainer card
Escape Rope makes each player switch their Active Pokémon with one of their Benched Pokémon. Your opponent switches first. If a player has no Benched Pokémon, they do not change Pokémon. The Item combines two player-specific decisions rather than letting you freely select the opposing replacement.
Background on this Trainer card’s printed effect; its edition, language and finish remain distinct.A detail worth noticing
The exception for having no Bench concerns only the player unable to switch. The text distinguishes that situation from the other player's, whose switching options depend on their own field.
