CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Kabutops swam very fast in warm seas before its species disappeared. It rushed prey and slashed them with long blades, then absorbed their fluids. Some fossils suggest its body was beginning to adapt to land, without explaining why it became extinct. The Pokédex presents a formidable prehistoric predator whose evolution may have opened a new path too late to ensure survival.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun describes Kabutops's body beginning to evolve for life on land. Pokémon Shield admits that the cause of its extinction remains unknown. The observed anatomical change therefore does not suffice to explain the species' end.
