CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Budew passes through winter with its bud closed. When the sun's warmth returns, it opens and releases pollen. Near the clear water where it lives, this signal announces spring, but the pollen is not harmless: it can cause sneezing and a runny nose. The Pokédex even describes it as toxic. Its blooming thus combines a visible seasonal change with a less pleasant defense for those who breathe what it scatters around itself.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword states that if Budew grows with clean water, its pollen becomes more toxic. Pokémon Legends: Arceus recounts that the bud opening signals the end of winter to local people.
