CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Paras digs through soil to gnaw on roots, but the mushrooms on its back absorb much of the nutrients it finds. These organisms, called tochukaso, grow with it and can even direct its actions against its will, according to the Pokédex. In Alola, their limited growth might result from a lack of water and nutrients, according to one entry. Paras's life thus resembles a silent struggle between a feeding insect and the mushrooms benefiting from its body.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Moon says Paras's tochukaso mushrooms are dried and ground to prepare a traditional elixir. Pokémon Ultra Moon also credits them with control over the insect. What humans seek therefore weighs heavily on the life of the Pokémon carrying it.
