CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Dottler barely moves inside its shell, but it is very much alive. It develops there while examining its surroundings with psychic powers, as though already preparing for evolution. One entry reports that it supposedly discovered these powers after a long fast; the Pokédex presents this origin as a hypothesis. Its stillness therefore hides invisible activity: sensing the outside and continuing to grow before its change of form.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword emphasizes the contrast between Dottler's stillness and its being alive. Fasting as the origin of its psychic powers is a supposition there. Pokémon Shield describes the present use of those powers to examine its surroundings.
