CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Galvantula spins electrically charged threads to immobilise prey before eating it. When it feels threatened, it can spray a multitude of these threads and build a barrier around itself. Some entries describe hunting near birds’ nests, where it traps young birds that cannot yet fly. It also has electric hairs on its abdomen capable of paralysing a victim. Its web is therefore a trap, a defensive wall and an extension of its body at once.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword attributes paralysis lasting up to three days and three nights to electric hairs fired by Galvantula. Pokémon Shield describes webs placed near nests to capture chicks. These details show two distinct ways of using electricity while hunting.
