The Pokémon’s story

Cubone wears its most painful memory on its head. Its departed mother's skull hides its face and accompanies it wherever it goes. When grief returns, its crying resonates inside, turning the helmet into an echo chamber. Its silhouette thus tells of an enduring attachment: the protection we see is also the visible sign of an absence.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Shield mentions dreams that sometimes make Cubone cry and says that each tear makes it stronger. This entry adds an idea of rebuilding to its story: grief is not the only prospect ahead of it.
