CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Magmar comes from craters and seeks the heat of volcanoes. When exhausted, it can plunge into magma to recover its strength. In battle, flames bursting from its body intimidate opponents and may ignite nearby vegetation. Its breath itself is scorching. The Pokédex thus emphasises that heat protects and heals it, but that its presence can also turn a peaceful place into the start of a fire.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun describes a Magmar whose sneeze can release flames. Pokémon Sun adds that it plunges into magma when tired. Fire is therefore not limited to its attacks: it accompanies ordinary reactions of its body.
