CARDEX BACKGROUND
Gourgeist wanders streets on moonless nights, singing and making unsettling cries. It can seize prey with hairlike arms and keep singing while the victim suffers. Stories claim its sounds curse listeners or that a nighttime visitor takes away whoever opens the door. The Pokédex does not clearly distinguish these stories from observations. Its hunting behavior nevertheless suffices to make such encounters feared.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.Pokémon Sword reports that Gourgeist's cries are supposedly the lamentations of spirits from beyond. Pokémon Shield tells of it visiting a door during the new moon but presents this as an unsettling story. Pokémon Y more directly describes how it seizes prey.
Quoted source text is retained in the card’s printed language so this exact printing can be identified. The CarDex background above is translated into English.
