CARDEX BACKGROUND
Purugly likes making itself comfortable, even seizing another Pokémon's nest if it finds it cozy. To look more imposing, it wraps its forked tail around its waist. This changes the silhouette it presents to others without actually making it larger. The Pokédex thus describes opportunistic behavior and a way of manipulating appearance. The nest it occupies and the posture it adopts both assert its place.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.A comfortable nest can be enough to attract Purugly even if it already belongs to another species, according to Pokémon X. Pokémon Y explains its bulkier look: it girdles its waist with its forked tail to impress others.
