CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Chespin moves with wooden protection covering its head and back. The Pokédex emphasizes the strength of this casing, capable of withstanding considerable impacts. Its small silhouette should not obscure that defense. What resembles a plant shell forms real armor, giving the young Pokémon toughness its size might not suggest.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Chespin's quills change consistency. Usually flexible, they become hard and sharp enough to pierce rock when it stiffens them, according to Pokémon X. Their effectiveness therefore depends on a transformation at the right moment rather than permanent rigidity.
