CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Raticate gnaws on rocks, tree trunks and sometimes house walls to wear down its constantly growing fangs. Its webbed hind feet let it cross rivers and even swim to another island. This mobility helps it find food or escape predators. The Pokédex thus portrays a tenacious animal: its teeth require constant maintenance, while water does little to stop it.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon says Raticate's whiskers help it balance and advises against touching them, even on a tame individual. Pokémon Sun notes that its hind feet are webbed. Together, these details explain its skill at moving both on land and through water.
