The Pokémon’s story

Red-Striped and Blue-Striped Basculin fight fiercely over territory. Their schools can drive almost every other Pokémon from a lake; only certain crustaceans remain, according to the Pokédex. Yet the two colors sometimes mix in a single group despite their rivalry. Fishers enjoy the challenge of catching them so much that illegal releases have encouraged their spread. Their presence thus changes relationships among the inhabitants of a body of water.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon White notes that one or two Basculin of one color sometimes live among a school of the other color despite their hostility. Pokémon Sword recounts that Fishers illegally release them into lakes, encouraging their proliferation.
