CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Marshtomp moves with particular ease in mud. Life on slippery ground has strengthened its legs; it can stand firmly there and burrow into the earth to sleep. A thin, sticky film also covers its body, allowing it to live out of water. When the sea retreats, it plays in beach mud. The Pokédex even describes it as faster in mud than while swimming, thanks to its developed hindquarters.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Alpha Sapphire directly compares Marshtomp's movements: it travels faster through mud than by swimming. Omega Ruby specifies that a thin slimy layer protects its life on land and shows it on beaches at low tide.
