CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Metapod remains almost motionless while its body transforms inside a sturdy shell. Its cells change and the contents of its casing become very soft. It therefore hardens the shell to withstand attacks, especially from birds, but a strong enough impact could knock it down and spill what is inside. This waiting period is less peaceful than it seems: the outer protection safeguards a fragile transformation until evolution.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon says Metapod's shell can withstand Pikipek's attacks, but a fall leaves it dangerously vulnerable. Pokémon Ultra Sun describes the liquid and transforming cells inside. Its apparent sturdiness therefore protects very delicate contents.
