CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Poliwrath has muscles developed through vigorous swimming. It crosses cold waters and can even break through ice blocking its path with its arms. Yet the Pokédex says it often stays on land despite its aquatic skills. Its fists also serve in battle and can smash a large stone to pieces. Its daily life therefore combines two abilities its body maintains together: moving through water and striking hard on the riverbank.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun notes that Poliwrath, an excellent swimmer, generally spends time on land. Pokémon Sword credits it with the strength to break sea ice with its arms. This preference for the shore is surprising in a Pokémon so well adapted to water.
