CARDEX BACKGROUND
Butterfree travels through meadows in search of nectar and carries it to its nest on the hairs of its legs. Its wings also help repel threats: by beating them rapidly, it scatters toxic powder. This protection even allows it to fly in rain. The Pokédex credits it with still more attentive behaviour: when a bird attacks a Caterpie, Butterfree may intervene by covering the attacker in its scales.
Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.Butterfree’s large eyes are not simple surfaces. Close observation reveals that they consist of a multitude of small eyes, explains Pokémon Sun. This anatomical detail belongs to an insect that must spot flowers, rivals and dangers during flight.
Quoted source text is retained in the card’s printed language so this exact printing can be identified. The CarDex background above is translated into English.
