The Pokémon’s story

Only Farfetch'd that have survived many battles can evolve into Sirfetch'd. During a duel, this Pokémon parries attacks with a sturdy leaf, then counters with its leek's sharp stalk. The same plant serves as both weapon and food. Yet its fighting career depends on this fragile object: when the leek withers, Sirfetch'd retires from battle. Its plant equipment thus accompanies its entire story, from evolution to retirement.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword links Sirfetch'd's retirement with its leek withering. Pokémon Shield distinguishes its two uses in a duel: the leaf serves as a shield and the pointed stalk for counterattacks. The stalk also remains edible to it.
