CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Swoobat emits ultrasound at different frequencies through its nose. Some sounds are powerful enough to break rock, but the energy expenditure can leave it too tired to fly. Males also use gentler sounds for courtship. In some regions, its nose shape is considered lucky. The Pokédex presents an organ that is at once a communication tool, a formidable weapon and a symbol in human beliefs.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Sword notes that the strongest ultrasound exhausts Swoobat enough to prevent flight. Pokémon White describes the sounds a male uses during courtship. Its nose therefore produces sounds with very different purposes, with a physical cost as their power increases.
