CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Dewgong glides through cold waters with a body adapted to swimming. It travels the sea looking for fish such as Wishiwashi, then rests on ice or a beach after eating. The sun's warmth aids its digestion, even though icy water remains its preferred domain. Long ago, a sailor supposedly mistook its silhouette sleeping on a glacier for a mermaid. The Pokédex thus connects a marine way of life with an old human misunderstanding.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Sun credits Dewgong with a speed of eight knots when searching for prey. Pokémon Omega Ruby reports a sailor mistaking it for a mermaid on the ice. Its streamlined body thus inspires both a speed measurement and a story.
