CARDEX BACKGROUND
The story behind this Trainer card
Ultra Ball requires discarding two cards from your hand to allow a Pokémon search. If you cannot discard those two cards, its text forbids use. The Pokémon searched for is revealed and put into your hand, then the deck is shuffled. This printing makes the required cost explicit before granting a precise selection, without limiting the target to the Basic stage.
Background on this Trainer card’s printed effect; its edition, language and finish remain distinct.A detail worth noticing
This Ultra Ball's parenthetical text forbids playing it without being able to discard two cards. It prevents treating that cost as an optional maximum. The Pokémon found must then be revealed, whatever its position in an evolution chain.

Printed card effect
Documented variants
