CARDEX BACKGROUND

The Pokémon’s story

Grimer slips through the smallest openings and travels through sewer pipes in search of stagnant water. The Pokédex links its origin to polluted sludge and its gelatinous body's survival to its microbes. In a place that is too clean, it wastes away. As toxic discharges decrease, some entries even describe it as short of food. Its existence thus reveals an unsettling link between human-made pollution and a Pokémon dependent on it.

Background on the species in the video games; its forms and card versions may have appeared later.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Ultra Moon presents the decline in toxic waste released by factories as a threat to Grimer. Pokémon Ultra Sun notes that its bacteria cannot thrive in an environment that is too clean. An improvement for residents can therefore weaken this species born from pollution.
