The Pokémon’s story

Dondozo has a big appetite but limited ability to catch prey alone. It therefore partners with Tatsugiri to hunt. Despite its own power, it follows this small partner so faithfully that the Pokédex describes Tatsugiri as its leader. Dondozo's strength does not come with much ability to devise complex plans: it mainly pushes straight ahead. Their cooperation thus helps it feed despite its own limitations.

A detail worth noticing

Pokémon Scarlet presents Dondozo as gluttonous but poor at finding food alone, explaining its partnership with Tatsugiri. Pokémon Violet notes that the powerful Dondozo nevertheless obeys this smaller partner and prefers force to complicated strategies.
